The Problem:

Physicians rely on self-directed learning to access “evidence-based” resources to better inform their clinical decision-making for optimizing patient care. Evidence-based research is continuously generated and archived in multiple information repositories, which can make it challenging to locate. In addition, while there are many databases available to physicians, not all of the resources in these databases are “evidence-based.”

Within Natividad, the Allen Santell Memorial Medical Library serves as an information hub for Natividad’s new and practicing physicians. The library houses evidence- based resources which include databases, journals, international research studies, etc. that are available to assist physicians in their clinical decision-making.

This learning activity is designed familiarize Natividad physicians with the library’s evidence-based resources, assist them in accessing these resources, and explain how to distinguish between evidence-based information and non-evidence-based information.

Desired Learning Outcomes:

  1. Identify relevant, evidence-based information resources in the Natividad Medical Library.
  2. Demonstrate the ability to access evidence-based resources in the Natividad Medical Library.
  3. Distinguish between evidence-based and non-evidence-based information resources.
  4. Apply evidence-based information to clinical decision-making to optimize patient care.
  5. Increase utilization of Natividad’s Medical Library resources.

Accreditation:

Natividad Medical Center is accredited by the California Medical Association (CMA) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Natividad Medical Center designates this online enduring activity for a maximum of 2.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
